FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK

From time immemorial, evolution to stone age, ancient to medieval, modern to space age, mankind has always been in search of acquiring knowledge, upgrading and sophisticating means of protecting possessions from sentimental to high value belongings, whether personal, Governmental, or Commercial.

A century ago, when burglary was not with sophisticated tools, the main concern was fire protection; hence fire safes with one, two and four hours rating were produced.
In the early 1900's, as burglars got more advanced tools at their disposal, the Safe Industry underwent a revolution, and burglary protection was added to the fire protection safes. There existed no Governmental Institution to test and certify these safes, in the early 1900's; hence there was no guarantee of its claim to be burglary and fire protection.

The Safe Industry once again went through another revolution, when the Underwriter's Laboratory was established in Chicago, Illinois, to set norms for burglary and fire protection of safes. It was then when the "UL" ratings came into existence and safes from Manufacturers were tested for ratings of TL-15, TL-30, TL-30x6, TRTL-15x6, TRTL-30x6 and today even TRTL-60x6. All above ratings are tests and norms set by "UL", and present the type of attack by sophisticated tool that rated safe should be able to withstand; and a guidance technical chart was made. Thus today, based on the type of trade or industry, the level of protection, location, inventory value, and the insurance coverage that can be obtained, the type of "UL" rated safe is selected.

In the early to late 90's., the trend for keeping valuables by residentials in bank safe deposit boxes was very high, but with residential safes being introduced in the mid to late 90-'s, the residential clients got easy access, full control, burglary and fire protection, supervision, and under their own roof with a good residential safe.

Since then the residential safe market, starting from basic to high end, with sophisticated locking mechanism, elegant interiors, to high gloss paint finishes, has captured the imagination of clients and has become one of the most lucrative sides of the safe business, driving the demand for such high end residential safes not only nationally, but internationally.

A Safe Company today, if it can break traditional design and be unique in design and practicality as well as be competitively priced, with well planned marketing could reap the harvest, even in a slow economy.

A sincere attempt was made to condense the history of Safe Industry and trade as brief and correct as possible.
